Located just off the coast of Sinai in the Egyptian Red Sea, the SS Thistlegorm is one of the most iconic wreck dives in the world—especially for those drawn to World War II history. Sunk in 1941, this British supply ship still lies with its cargo remarkably intact: stacks of boots, rifles, motorcycles, and other wartime supplies now shared with curious reef fish and beams of sunlight.
In this painting, my dive buddy moves through one of the cargo holds, illuminating details frozen in time. The silence, the stillness, the layers of history and marine life—it all feels like stepping into a submerged museum. Hold of Time is a tribute to that experience, whether you’ve swum through her decks or are simply imagining the stories she holds.
