Why I Built ReflectionsFromWater.com
I built ReflectionsfromWater.com because drawing and journaling gave me somewhere to put things when life was hard. When my dad was sick and in the hospital for almost a year, both helped me process what I was going through, quiet my mind, or simply focus on something else for a while.
I wanted to share that kind of space with other people.

A simple place to pause
ReflectionsFromWater.com is a simple web app you can open on your phone, tablet or computer when you want somewhere to capture your thoughts, slow down for a few minutes, or do something creative.
There’s an online journal for writing down whatever is on your mind, along with short Thoughts from Water inspired by water, diving, movement, change, resilience and the things I’ve noticed beneath the surface. You can use them as reflection prompts if you want a place to begin.
Drawing as a way in
There’s also a drawing and tracing space built around my own line drawings. You can trace directly on your phone or tablet with your finger or a stylus, follow only the lines you like, embellish them, simplify them, or use them as a starting point.
The tracing is really just a way in. I’ve always found the simple act of following and drawing lines calming and meditative. If you feel like getting more creative, you can gradually turn the guide down to zero and start making your own marks, shapes and details until the drawing becomes entirely yours.
I’ll keep adding new drawings to the library over time, so there will always be more to explore.

Prefer paper and pencil?
If you’d rather step away from the screen, you can also download a faint PNG guide and print it at home. The lines are intentionally light so you can trace over them with a real pencil or pen, then colour, simplify or build on the drawing however you want.
I like that this extends the same slow, meditative experience into something more tactile.
Your work stays with you
Your journal entries and drawings are saved locally on the device you’re using when you choose to save them, rather than being stored in an account somewhere else. You can also download your finished drawing as a PNG if you want to keep it.
A little of the underwater world
Because the underwater world is where so much of this started for me, each week I’ll also share one of my paintings there.
I wanted that to be part of the experience too. Not as a gallery, but as a small moment of colour, beauty and stillness to come back to.
Somewhere for it to go
The whole thing is intentionally simple. You don’t have to be an artist, a journaler, a diver, or particularly good at sitting still. Sometimes we don’t need to solve everything. We just need somewhere for it to go.
